About Us

Pumwani College of Nursing and Midwifery (PCNM) is among the first midwifery colleges to be established in Kenya. It was originally known as the African Maternity, later changed to its present name Pumwani which is the name of its surrounding area.

The Hospital was founded in 1926 by a Charitable Organization called Lady Grigg Welfare League and was named Lady Grigg Maternity. In 1944 the Hospital was taken over by the Defunct Municipal Council of Nairobi which is now The Nairobi City County Government.
